DataForce by TransPerfect is currently looking for linguists/phoneticians with idiomatic fluency in Japanese (Japan) to join our team of Freelance Linguists. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of an innovative project. 

Role Summary 

As a Phonetician/Linguist, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the accuracy, consistency, and usability of IPA annotations. 

The ideal candidate is a trained phonetician or linguist with a strong command of the International Phonetic Alphabet and a meticulous eye for detail. You combine solid theoretical grounding in phonetics and phonology with practical experience working on real-world linguistic data. 

Role Responsibilities 

In this role, you will review and proofread IPA annotations for phonetic accuracy and completeness and ensure consistent application of IPA standards and project-specific guidelines. 

Requirements 

• Idiomatic fluency in Japanese (Japan)

• Excellent listening, writing and spelling skills in Japanese (Japan)

• Degree in Linguistics, Phonetics, Speech Science, or a related field  

• Good command of the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) 

• Proven experience in phonetic transcription or linguistic annotation 

• Advanced English language skills (written and verbal) 

• Excellent attention to detail and consistency 

• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines effectively 

• Interest in language technologies.
